Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight.

Well you’d be shit out of luck  in Sweden now.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/10/world/europe/10iht-sweden.html?emc=eta1

A couple of quotes from the article:

” His 2-year-old twin sons, Julian and Mateo, call him Mama. He and his now former wife shared parental leave by alternating days at work and at home.”

“The ponytailed center-right finance minister calls himself a feminist…”

Ugh.

Are the latest labour MP sleaze allegations really that bad?

with 5 comments

Probably not, at least when compared to the expenses saga that we thought would never end but perhaps it may finally be the catalyst for much needed parliamentary change.

For me, I never liked Byers, Hoon or Hewitt but then again there are very few labour MP’s I would call career politicians at least in cabinet.

It seems to me that this is nothing new, probably been around since the rise of big business and lobbying but we know it’s wrong so why does it still go on?

I say pay them from the tax purse and ban sponsored contact with lobbyists or enterprise.

Colombian DAS wiretap scandal: what we can look forward to in the UK

with 148 comments

Read this story and weap all you who think that the state is out to help:BBC wiretap story

If you think it can’t happen, it can.
If you think it won’t happen, it will.

Once we drive the criminals off the street, they will all be found in the police force, using the law against you.

Bring on the id cards, retinal scans, gps trackers, dna database, phone and internet records, drug tests, and psychological profling. Bring on the happy world, without criminals.

Naive scum, deserve what you get.

Fat pills

with 10 comments

pills1

What about these new over-the-counter diet pills? The £1-a-day pill, called Alli, has been given the green light by the European Commission for safety and effectiveness but there are concerns over side-effects and what else your body gets rid of when you shit fat.

Apparently, one of the side-effects of taking the pills is charmingly described as “anal leakage”.  Yes, the unabsorbed fat leaks from yur ass and apparently makes flatulence risky, which is not only embarrassing and uncomfortable but create stinky stains on your trouser too.

GlaxoSmithKline, who make and sell both Xenical and Alli, have done tests on the new pill’s effectiveness and they say that for every 4lb lost by dieting alone, Alli can help you shift 2lb extra.

Along with the fat you lose in your stools, you also lose fat-soluble vitamins including D and A. Of the two, vitamin D is the bigger concern. Research indicates its vital role in our health above and beyond the maintenance of strong bones by helping calcium to be absorbed. Any vitamin D we get from the few dietary sources that provide it should probably not be rejected by our body because of a pill.

Anyone tried em?

Another man done gone

with 3 comments

I only heard at the weekend that the great John Martyn died a couple of weeks back. For those not in the know John first made his name in the late 60s folk scene but soon developed his own inimitable style fusing blues, jazz and folk and releasing a string of highly acclaimed albums during the 70s and early 80s. His health suffered in later life due to his prodigious alcohol and cocaine dependence (he claims that in a good binge he’d comfortably see off 3 bottles of single malt)  which resulted in his having half a leg amputated. By all accounts this never dimmed his enthusiasm and charm and there seems to be very few if any negative stories about the big man.

For a flavour of what I consider to be one of Britain’s finest post-war musicains check out this link:

They don’t make them like that anymore and more’s the pity. R.I.P big John, you’ll be sorely missed.

You Asked:

with 13 comments

You asked me once what it was I want
but what I need is more prescient

I need to live your love expressed
comfortable, painful, beautiful

I believe that we are meant to be
I need you now and always to know

Life with any other is a lie
Built to hide the truth impossibly.

For a time I rudely attempted
To love enough for the both of us

But on comatose reflection
I discovered I had drowned your voice.

I am ready to hear you again
Over the din of my strident heart.

I apologise for each hurdle
That we are oft forced to overcome

Though I treasure each experience
As growth has flourished in we through us.

Destiny proffers a range of choice
For our exertion to exploit.

I ask us to seep through the iced block
And sink into the blissful depths

Where our effulgent cores beat in step
With good playfully bound in passion.

To achieve a time where we construct
Dreams to reality for all

Until with age we are surrounded
In libraries of truth now practiced

Telling stories to our abundant
Grand-children, eagerly drinking bliss.

In love, remorse, and calm gratitude
Flowering in your rich hearts’ garden.

Sincerely,

Sick Murderers, Rapists, and Labour

with 11 comments

Under Labour, the average time spent in prison by murderers and rapists is 6 years. This is down from 14 years before Labour came to power.

These are people that should be killed, let alone free after 6 years. People get their Doctorates in about as much time and sacrifice. Actually, half of them probably do degrees while inside. Probably a cheap way to get your school done.

Kill em all I say.

Excuses… Excuses

with 6 comments

Could someone please explain to me why England is so fucking good at doing badly at sports that we invented and then making pathetic excuses for it. I once read someone comment on the fact that we only talk about the past and I concur! On the rare occasion one of our teams pulls something out of the bag we use this as evidence as some kind of greatness for a number of years. Who are we trying to kid? Ourselves quite clearly. Why don’t we use all this pent up energy on actually practicing a sport before trying it out in a serious match situation. Jack Dee once said that if whinging was an Olympic sport we would get gold everytime! I am certainly not dissing the fact that we keep on trying but for god sake stop hyping it up so much before capitulating back into our usual mediocracy.
